Australasian Emissions Trading

Ignition Energy is well positioned to participate in Australasian Emissions Trading Schemes (ETS). Our extensive experience in the energy markets has seen us build strong relationships with Producers of Eligible Permits and conversely with companies that incur CO2 Emission liabilities. As an intermediary, we seek to provide a risk mitigation service to clients with carbon market exposure.

We have direct experience in investing in longer dated Australian SFE electricity futures which incorporate an expected cost of carbon, as facilitated by the Rudd government's proposed Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS).

Maintaining our knowledge of the proposed CPRS legislation and relationships with a cross-section of stakeholders is a key aspect to our business.

Australian Green Energy Certificates

Green energy markets have evolved in Australia since the Australian Commonwealth Governments Renewable Energy Act of 2000. Under this legislation, electricity purchasers are required to contribute to the generation of additional energy from renewable sources, commensurate with their market share. Various state-based schemes have also involved in the past few years to reduce emissions through the promotion of cleaner energy sources.

Most trading in green certificates occurs Over-the-Counter (OTC). Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) futures and options are also listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX).

Ignition Energy has established relationships with a cross-section of stakeholders in the market, including wholesale providers of certificates, customers, brokers and intermediaries. This enables us to be well positioned to assist with hedging green exposures through trading in the following green certificates:

  • Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)
  • OTC & ASX listed New South Wales Greenhouse Gas Abatement Certificates (NGACs)
  • Queensland Gas Electricity Certificates (GECs)
  • Green Power Rights (GPRs)
  • Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates (VEECs)

Ignition Energy actively monitors the green markets and evaluates opportunities to enter as an intermediary to these markets.
